Heel Pain
Heel Pain At The Movement Centre
Discomfort in the heel of the foot is an extremely common problem that we see every day and have successfully resolved in thousands of Sydneysiders. Heel pain can range from mildly annoying and when left untreated can be completely disabling and cause severe pain.
Pain From Plantar Fasciitis
Pain in the heel of the foot is often caused by damage to the Plantar Fascia. It is also commonly referred to as Plantar Fasciitis, Plantar Fasciosis, Heel spurs or Heel bruising. With this form of discomfort in the heel it is often felt first thing in the morning or after rest when putting weight onto the heel. It is generally felt by pushing into the heel, but you can also experience pain along the arch of the foot and further down into the balls of the feet.
The Plantar Fascia is a tight, fibrous band that connects the Calcaneus (Heel bone) and runs up the arch of the foot before connecting under the Metatarsals (balls of feet). It has an important job in supporting the arch of the foot and helping the body absorb the shock of walking, running, jumping, and standing for long periods.
If the Plantar Fascia is put under excessive loads by a sudden increase in activity, faulty biomechanics, inappropriate footwear, weight changes, poor muscle strength or muscle tightness it can cause the Plantar Fascia to become inflamed and degenerated and ultimately symptomatic.
A Podiatry Biomechanical Assessment Helps Diagnose The Cause Of Pain
To resolve the pain, our podiatrists will perform a “Biomechanical Assessment” to establish what factors are the main contributors to the problem and ultimately determine the most efficient and effective ways to approach the treatment plan and resolve the symptoms.
